Overview
The Carbon Emission Footprint empowers organizations to track, analyze, and optimize the environmental impact of their cloud usage. As sustainability becomes a top priority for businesses worldwide, this feature provides visibility into the carbon emissions associated with your cloud operations, enabling informed decisions that align cost efficiency with environmental responsibility.
This feature integrates seamlessly into the Cloud Cost Platform, allowing users to:
- Monitor Carbon Emissions: View detailed reports on your cloud usage's carbon footprint, broken down by service, region, and workload.
- Optimize for Sustainability: Identify high-impact areas and implement cost-effective strategies to reduce emissions.
- Set and Track Goals: Establish carbon reduction targets and measure progress with real-time data and trend analysis.
Designed for businesses looking to lead in sustainable cloud practices, the Carbon Emission Footprint feature combines financial and environmental insights to support your organization’s journey toward greener cloud computing.
- The capability is currently supported for AWS Cloud cost

Solution
Anodot integrates with GreenPixie a leading provider of usage-based sustainability data for hyperscaler cloud. GreenPixie calculates the cloud's carbon, energy, and water consumption, including your cloud providers' Scope 3 emissions.
This delivers emissions data with the same granularity as cost management platforms, allowing for unparalleled observability and action.
As the authority on cloud emissions data, Greenpixie is trusted to power GreenOps services for businesses around the world supporting ISO-14064 | Sustainable IT Standards | GHG Protocol.
Below is an overview of how GreenPixie achieves data that is; location-based; inclusive of cloud provider Scope 3 emissions; granular to the resource/instance level; and consistent across cloud providers:
Cost & Usage
The carbon emission-related measures are available as part of the Cost & Usage explorer, providing the user the observability and report/dashboard creation capability for every one of the cost-related filters and dimensions down to the granularity resource and tag levels.
- Total Carbon Emission-Total combined CO2e emissions from usage and manufacturing in tonnes (MTCO2e)
- Usage Carbon Emission-CO2e emissions from cloud usage in tonnes (MTCO2e)
- Manufacturing Carbon Emission-CO2e emissions from proportionate manufacturing of cloud infrastructure in tonnes (MTCO2e)
- Power Instead of Electricity (usage_electricity_consumption_kwh)-Electricity consumption from cloud usage in KwH
- Water Consumption Electricity Production-Water consumption from electricity production in litres
Integration Flow
In Anodot<>GreenPixie integration no private identifiable information is sent nor do we send customer business definitions and actual costs. Anodot will not send any additional information which is not defined below.
How do we start?
- Contact Anodot support with a request to enable the carbon emission metrics.
- You must sign a 'Green Pixie - consent' allowing us to send limited usage data to GreenPixie.
- Once we receive the approval we'll enable the flow and the metric will be available as part of the cost & usage explorer.
Data flow
- Invoice information is sent to Anodot for processing in the usual mechanism
- As part of the Anodot processing engine Anodot extracts cost information, anonymizes it, and transfers partial invoice information to GreenPixie using S3 secure transfer. Anonymization data: Account name, Linked account name, and resource names. Filtered information that is not sent to GreenPixie: Tags,
- Anodot sending only data for dates that haven't been transferred yet to GreenPixie. For example:
- Today we received an invoice containing data for January 1, and we processed and sent that data.
- Tomorrow, we receive an invoice with data for January 2. Since we already sent the January 1 data, we only sent the January 2 data.
- In case several days were skipped for some reason, we will identify and send the missed data to ensure completeness.
- GreenPixie processes the new data, adds the carbon emission values, and returns it to Anodot using S3 secure transfer.
- During the next invoice processing Anodot joins the carbon emission values.
Data retention
GreenPixie does not store customer information for more than 1 month.

Anodot will only merge a predefined set of additional values for our cost data
Enable GreenOps
Customers can enable the GreenOps carbon emission service at any given point in time, GreenPixie is committed to retaining the data at any given time.
Once enabled GreenOps carbon emission data will be available only for the upcoming days.
If historical data is needed Anodot can manually run historical data per customer demand.
SLA
Anodot and GreenPixie process will not take more than 24 hours. Any failure in GreenPixie will not impact the general invoice processing flow.
