The SP Simulator enhances and replaces the SP Analyzer. The SP Simulator analyzes your current commitments and usage data to recommend the most cost-effective Compute Savings Plan options.
- Simulation data: Includes EC2, Lambda, and Fargate computing costs.
- Reseller Customers: Simulations are based on rebilling data and consider EC2 compute costs only.
Getting Started
- Accessing the Simulator:
- Login to Anodot platform
- From the left menu navigate to Commitments > SP Simulator.
- The recommendations will be based on your selected Recommendation Preferences (e.g., days to check, coverage %, term, purchasing type).
- Adjust configuration and filters:
- Scope: Select whether the simulation should apply to the entire payer account or a specific linked account.
- Days to check
- Coverage %: Determine what percentage of your total compute costs should be covered by commitments.
- Excluded Expiring SP: Exclude SPs expiring within the selected days. These are treated as inactive, resulting in higher simulated on-demand costs.
Note: We exclude both Compute and EC2 Instance SP types in the filter.
- Click Simulate.
SP Purchasing Recommendations
The simulator provides up to six purchasing options, including combinations of:
- Term: 1 year and 3 years.
- Payment options: No Upfront, Partial Upfront, and ALL Upfront.
For each option, you will see:
- Recommended Hourly Commitment. You can edit the hourly commitment to explore its impact on your costs.
- Estimated Monthly Savings (normalized for the selected "days to check").
- Effective Savings Rate (ESR).
Selecting a specific plan updates the charts and data below.
Exploring the Purchasing Recommendations
Use the simulation and current tabs to explore and analyze the costs.
- Simulation:
- Simulate your costs based on the current commitments. For example, if all your Savings Plans expired yesterday, the simulation calculates costs for the selected period as if all usage were charged at the on-demand rate.
- Shows the potential impact of implementing the recommended Savings Plan.
- Current:
- Displays existing commitments and coverage based on your selected "days-to-check."
Charts and Visualizations
On-Demand Equivalent (Coverage) Chart
- Visualizes on-demand equivalent costs alongside current/ simulated/ recommended covered costs.
- Supports daily and hourly granularity.
Compute Cost Chart
- Compares on-demand and commitment costs for the selected period.
- Supports daily and hourly granularity.
- In Simulation, shows the impact of purchasing the recommended SP, including unused commitments.
- Notes:
- Costs are accumulated.
- Unused commitments are displayed only for simulation scenarios.
Detailed Breakdown (Current Tab Only)
- Displays a breakdown of compute services under current commitments.
- Exportable via CSV for further analysis.
Special Considerations for MSP Customers
- Partner Pricing Mode: Simulates all compute costs (EC2, Lambda, Fargate).
- Customer Pricing Mode/ selected scope/ MSP customer user:
- Simulations are based on rebilling data and include EC2 compute only.
- Simulations can be run at the linked account level, not the payer account level.
